Tiny Chair

Chairs

During the winter of 2020, I made two chairs for a class: the Tiny chair and the Bun chair. Tiny chair was built in a week, as a challenge, and the Bun chair was intended to be built over 6 weeks as a final project. The shop was unfortunately closed in early March as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Bun chair remains unfinished. In this page you can find process pictures and documentation for both chairs.

Tiny Chair

Tiny is a big chair. It was designed big to make you feel small…

I tend to never sit on a chair the right way, so tiny was built big, big enough to play, sit cross legged, kneel and even lean against the armrests to take a nap.

Before making this chair, I had never done proper wood working. So making Tiny was a LARGE challenge.

Processes: Woodworking

Materials: 2 by 4s, plywood, wool

Bun Chair

Inspired by the Eames Lounge chair, my Bun chair features a wooden silhouette that hugs the upholstered cushion.  However,  it is also designed to bring a bubbly, bright energy into the room, with a colorful upholstery that remains to be finished.

Currently, I am working on my chair one weekend a month, when I get the chance to access my friend’s dad’s woodshop.

Processes: Wood Lamination, Woodworking, Upholstery

Materials: African Mahogany, Epoxy, Upholstery foam and batting, Fabric
